SYNTAX OF THE WORLD'S LANGUAGES (SWL 1)

Leipzig (Germany), 5-8 August 2004

SWL 2 ?

We received far more abstracts for “Syntax of the World’s Languages 2004” than we had anticipated. This suggests that there is a real demand for this type of conference. So we should discuss whether there should be subsequent conferences with the same topic and general format.

Probably a rhythm of every two years would be the best solution.

If someone is willing to organize a successor conference, we would propose the following rules, to ensure continuity:

The Conference Committee will again consist of six or seven people, including the local organizer(s), and three of these will be carried over from the previous SWL conference. Of these three, one should be one of the local organizers, so that the next organizer can build on the experience of the previous organizers. Otherwise the choice of committee members (as well as plenary speakers etc.) is up to the local organizers.
