Registration:

The registration fee for ALT VI is as follows (prices in US dollars):

Citizens of developing countries, advance registration: 20.00
Citizens of developing countries, on-site registration: 30.00
Citizens of other countries, advance registration: 90.00
Citizens of other countries, on-site registration: 110.00

Developing countries are those in the official "List of Developing Countries" of the International Statistical Institute; the complete list may be viewed here. Among the many countries included in the list are Indonesia and some of the other ASEAN countries. Indonesian citizens wishing to register at the developing-country rate are required to furnish proof of affiliation with an institute of higher learning.

Advance registration does not involve payment of the registration fee (its primary function is to provide the organizers with information regarding the number of participants). All participants are expected to pay the registration fee at the on-site registration desk.

The registration fee may be paid in Indonesian Rupiah, Euros, or US dollars. The Rupiah and Euro rates will be calculated in accordance with the actual exchange rate on 21 July, slightly rounded for convenience. Only cash will be accepted. We regret that we will not be able to accept credit cards, travellers cheques or personal cheques.

Registration and payment of the fee entitles participants to attend all the sessions of ALT plus the preceding workshop on the languages of Sumatra. In addition, it includes 5 lunches (on 21-25 July), all the mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshments in-between, plus the banquet on 22 July. However, the fee does not include the excursions, for which there will be additional charges.

Facilities:

An overhead projector and a computer projector (for powerpoint presentations) will be available. Commercial photocopying facilities will be available, but not very convenient; accordingly, participants are strongly urged to bring enough copies of their handouts with them.

Excursions:

Immediately after the conference, there will be two excursions. Participants may choose to go on either or both of the excursions.

Excursion A: Monday, 25 July, 1500 - evening

Sightseeing in Padang and surrounding areas, followed by banquet, beach party and martial arts performance at Pantai Nirwana beach.

Price: 150,000 Rps (about 15 Euros)

Registration and Payment: at the conference site, before Saturday 23 July at 1730.

Excursion B: Tuesday, 26 July, all day

Leaving Padang at around 0830, we will head for Bukittinggi, a pretty mountain city and cultural capital of the Minangkabau. After sightseeing plus optional shopping and lunch we will proceed to Danau Maninjau, a spectacular mountain lake surrounded by villlages with typical Minangkabau architecture. Late afternoon we will drive back down to the coast, stopping for a sunset dinner on the beach at the small town of Pariaman, before returning to Padang at around 2000.

Price: 150,000 Rps (about 15 Euros)

For planning purposes, it would be of great help if you could give us a preliminary and non-committal indication of whether you think you'll be joining Excursion B on Tuesday 26 July, by filling out the questionnaire available here.

Note to participants in the ISMIL 9 conference in Maninjau on 27-29 July: in mid-afternoon of the 26th, we will be making a brief stop at the Nuansa Maninjau hotel (the ISMIL venue) to admire the panoramic view. So you might find it convenient to take Excursion B as far as the Nuansa Maninjau and then get off there, thereby using the excursion also as a means of transportation from ALT VI to ISMIL 9.
